The fifth USS Independence (CV/CVA-62) is a Forrestal-class aircraft carrier of the United States Navy. It was the fourth and final member of the Forrestal-class of conventional-powered Supercarriers. It entered service in 1959, with much of its early years spent in the Mediterranean Fleet.

On board 1965 - 1968 V-4 Division until 1967, then OC Division until 1968.
Served on the 1977 cruise in Navigation Division. Exited out Dec. 1977. Hate to see her go to scrap. Good ship. Good shipmates.
On board June 1977 to Dec 1983 E-2 to E-6 Boiler tech B Division 2mmr
Made 3 cruises on her. 74-78. Was in Deck Division. Took care of the Focsle below the flight deck. Made E-4 and departed the service. Good times for sure on the Indy.
was aboard Indy April 68 to Aug 69, was in "W" Division and had the title of nuclear assembly officer
INDY departing Yokosuka in '92 for cruise to Subic Bay and Hong Kong.

INDY was my last tour of duty .. March'92 was the last CV in Subic Bay, made trips to Sydney and Perth, on the way to two different AG deployments.
Was AAW Chief in CDC and ran the only underway Air Intercept Controller School afloat as Lead Instructor/Curriculum manager. Graduated my first AIC school class underway May'92, and several more after that during the two years aboard.
Was FireWatch DivO for yard period in '93
Was DC Locker Leader for 2F '93-'94
Hosted CNO for Christmas Breakfast in CPO Mess as Mess Caterer.
Had the CPO Mess crew on 5 Section Liberty in Thailand Mar'94.
Had my Dad aboard for the Tiger Cruise from Hong Hong to Japan '94.
Got "Bonged OFF" and had almost 100 crew as Sideboys when I checked out.

Came aboard Feb. 73 reported to the steam heat and cat shop. Then I worked in the 02n2 shop and from there I was assigned as a ppo. Left Indy Feb. 75. Some great people and a good duty station.
