Daniel, No SK school for me. Just on the job training along with studying the 3/2 manual.
William, I turned 13 the day you graduated from boot, thus beginning my long life as a teenager, which has yet to end!
1960 was the year
I am afraid I cannot remember exact dates but I think I went in in July and out in October. Time has taken its toll on some memory.
Thomas you were there much earlier than I was. I started 5 or 6 July 1960 and graduated 24 September 1960. At least I think that is when it was. It was more than ten minutes ago so I am not really sure of the dates.
Company 040 MCBSN Brackett.
Thomas, Which company were you in. I was there in 1960 in two different Companies. The first was CO 311 and I don't remember the company commander's name, only that he was a first Class Petty Officer. The second company was CO 338 and the company commander was Chief Townes.
Friends and Shipmates, I agree.
In all seriousness, this is a great site and I really like being a member of it. It seems to be able to bring back memories to all no matter what year we were there in NTC. It has for me, brought to light memories of NTC and the magnitude of men that went through "the old girl." It also has brought together in the membership, fellow Navy mates that do not necessarily know each other but have a lot in common. As the chaplain of Blue Water Sailors of Vietnam God has done well with this site.Wish we had the same experience with that site. Thanks to you all, it is a daily blessing to open this site and be among friends.
Terry, we talked last nigtht about the leggings and really has been a lot of comments on them. Just plunder in the attic and found my Anchor from 1967 along with and still in tack, the BlueJackets On Parade record. Never even played it, but might after 45 years just to reminess. Looking through the book I can only see that the leggings were worn was when we backed up a graduating class and when we graduated. Some of the people on line have commented on the gas chamber, pool time with inflating our bell bottoms and a lot more growing things we learned to do. The only negitive thing I remember is our company tried so hard to win one of the rewards, and during inspections the inspectors were seen unfolding something on a bed or untying something on the clothes line. But, that didn't stop us from trying. After boot camp went aboard the Kitty Hawk 1/10/68 as a BT for three and a half years. Stayed out 2 yrs., went into the reserves and retired with 24 years. I have read some comments about health and hope everyone that in eligile is taking advanage of TriCare. It has saved my wife and I a ton of money.
